As voting for the Asansol Lok Sabha by-election underway, BJP candidate Agnimitra Paul claimed on Tuesday that TMC workers thrashed her security personnel and pelted stones at her convoy. “TMC members beat our security with bamboo sticks. They threw rocks at my car and ransacked it. Regardless of how hard Mamata Banerjee tries, the BJP is winning here “Agnimitra Paul of the BJP says.
According to authorities, a quick response team of central forces and police arrived on the scene and took control of the situation.
“They (police) are attempting to influence the voting process by attacking us, not allowing media access, and not allowing polling agents to sit. The DM has ordered that no media accompany me. They are all employed by Mamata Banerjee “she continued,
She also claimed that the West Bengal police are preventing the BJP’s polling agent from entering the polling station.
She stated, “A West Bengal police officer was standing there, refusing to let him in. TMC is attempting to prevent the polling agent from entering the booth. I made certain that the polling agent was allowed entry after arriving here. I will go wherever there is a complaint “..
Paul will face actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha of the TMC. In response to the Nadia minor rape and murder case, Paul stated, “I’m ashamed that as a woman and the state’s chief minister Mamata Banerjee made shameful comments that it has to be seen if the rape victim had a love affair or that she was pregnant.”
The polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 6.30 p.m.
The by-election was called after former Union Minister Babul Supriyo resigned as Asansol’s Lok Sabha MP after resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The ballots will be counted on Saturday, April 16.
