New Delhi, 9th Feb. In a bold move following their overwhelming victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe corruption cases, marking a decisive start to their new tenure in the capital. The announcement came during the first Cabinet meeting of the newly formed government, a day after the BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly, returning to power after a gap of more than 26 years.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, addressing the media, emphasized the party’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. “As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly stated, and we echo this sentiment, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report will be presented during the first Cabinet meeting. We will also form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate all corruption cases,” Sachdeva said in a statement to PTI Videos.
Sachdeva expressed confidence in the BJP’s victory, crediting Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and BJP President JP Nadda for the party’s success. “Delhi’s voters have expressed their faith in the BJP’s development agenda and in Modi ji’s leadership,” he said. He added that the resounding win was a reflection of the party’s continued focus on the progress and welfare of the people.
The BJP’s victory, which saw it sweeping the Delhi polls with a commanding majority, was underscored by the complete absence of the Congress party, which once again failed to secure a single seat in the Delhi Assembly. Sachdeva commented on the Congress’s poor performance, noting the party’s historic significance but acknowledging its steep decline. “The Congress should work harder to regain the trust of the people,” he stated.
Regarding the BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate for Delhi, Sachdeva refrained from making any personal comments, indicating that the party would follow its systematic approach. “Such decisions are left to the central leadership, as has been the case in other states,” he remarked, signaling that the choice of Delhi’s CM will be finalized by the national leadership.
With the formation of the SIT, the BJP is signaling its intent to address corruption issues head-on and to further its development-focused agenda in the capital. The formation of the SIT is expected to dominate the early stages of the BJP’s administration as they seek to uphold their commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
