Bihar Varsity Error: 257 Marks Given in 100-Mark Paper

Muzaffarpur, 3rd July: In a bizarre case of examination irregularities, postgraduate students at Bhim Rao Ambedkar University (BRAU) in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, were awarded marks far exceeding the total — with some receiving as much as 257 marks in a 100-mark exam, and 225 in a 30-mark practical.

The glaring discrepancies have left students outraged and anxious about their academic futures. While some students received mark sheets showing impossibly high scores, others were wrongly marked as failed despite appearing for and performing well in all exams.

“This is not just an error — it’s a mockery of our efforts,” said a postgraduate student who was forced to make repeated rounds of the university for clarification.

The incident has drawn comparisons to a famous pencil advertisement where a student earned 105 out of 100 for neat handwriting. But the BRAU case, students allege, is no laughing matter — especially with careers on the line.

Mark sheet irregularities are not new to BRAU. In recent years, there have been repeated complaints about gross negligence in answer sheet evaluations, erroneous results, and careless mark tabulations in both undergraduate and postgraduate examinations.

Students blame the university for persistent carelessness, saying repeated mistakes reflect a lack of accountability.

The Controller of Examinations at BRAU acknowledged the error, attributing it to either a technical glitch or human oversight. He assured that all anomalies would be corrected within two working days, and accurate mark sheets would be distributed.

Until then, students remain in limbo, waiting for the university to correct what many say has become an annual ritual of academic mishandling.
