Bidyut Sarkar Demands Hindu Advocacy: Calls for Trump’s Return to Power
In an exclusive interview with the Global Governance News Group, Bidyut Sarkar, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Hindu Mandir in the USA, bluntly calls for stronger Hindu advocacy in U.S. politics. With elections currently underway, Sarkar insists that former President Donald Trump should return to power, slamming the current administration for failing to support the Hindu community and addressing their concerns.
New York| Kumar Rakesh: Thank you for joining us, Bidyut Sarkar. You’ve been instrumental in the establishment of Hindu temples in the US. Can you tell us about your journey since you started in the 1990s?
Bidyut Sarkar: Yes, thank you for having me. We began establishing temples around 1990, and it’s been almost 25 years now. We celebrate all our rituals and cultural events according to our religious scriptures, primarily in places like New York and Connecticut. However, it has not been easy to establish temples and run operations here. We have faced numerous challenges, especially when dealing with the community, but it has been a rewarding experience overall.
Kumar Rakesh: You mentioned challenges in establishing temples. What specific challenges have you faced?
Bidyut Sarkar: There are many hurdles—logistical issues, community acceptance, and navigating local regulations. Each temple represents not just a place of worship but a cultural center for our community. We strive to keep our traditions alive, but establishing these places requires a lot of effort and dedication.
Kumar Rakesh: Turning to politics, with the election season upon us, how do you view the current political landscape in the US, particularly with Kamala Harris as a key figure?
Bidyut Sarkar: That’s a very good question. Historically, we have supported the Democratic Party because they advocate for minority rights. However, the current political climate seems to be shifting. The Democratic Party is becoming more aligned with pro-Palestinian and Islamist views, which is concerning for many in the Hindu community. There’s a feeling that our interests are being sidelined.
Kumar Rakesh: You believe the Democratic Party’s stance is detrimental to Hindu interests?
Bidyut Sarkar: Yes, precisely. We have seen a pattern where previous administrations, including those of Clinton and Obama, have pursued policies that shelter Islamist groups. The current administration appears to continue this trend, and it leaves many of us feeling vulnerable, especially considering the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh and other regions.
Kumar Rakesh: You mentioned the situation of Hindus in Bangladesh. What are your thoughts on the lack of support from leaders like Kamala Harris regarding this issue?
Bidyut Sarkar: It’s disappointing. Kamala Harris is of Indian descent, and we had hoped she would advocate for Hindus facing atrocities in Bangladesh. However, there has been silence from her and the administration on these critical issues. It raises questions about their commitment to minority rights.
Kumar Rakesh: How do you perceive the policies of former President Trump compared to the current administration?
Bidyut Sarkar: When Trump was in office, there was a sense of peace, especially regarding India and its relations with the US. Under his administration, we saw a stronger stance against Islamist extremism. War is costly, both financially and socially, and we prefer a leadership that promotes peace and stability.
Kumar Rakesh: So, are you advocating for a return to Trump’s policies?
Bidyut Sarkar: Yes, I believe that a leadership approach similar to Trump’s, one that fosters peace and supports Hindu rights globally, would be beneficial. We need leaders who prioritize the safety and rights of all communities, including Hindus facing persecution abroad.
Kumar Rakesh: Thank you, Bidyut Ji, for sharing your insights on these pressing issues. Your perspective is valuable, and we appreciate your time today.
Bidyut Sarkar: Thank you for having me. It’s important for us to speak up for our community and continue advocating for our rights and values.
