Bharat Tex 2025 to Showcase India’s Textile Strength, Sustainability, Global Leadership: PM Modi

New Delhi, 17th Feb. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the Bharat Tex 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, highlighting the global importance of India’s textile sector and its role in the nation’s growth. He noted that Bharat Tex has become a major platform for international collaboration, bringing together policymakers, CEOs, and industry leaders from over 120 countries. The event showcases the diversity and vibrancy of India’s traditional garments, underscoring the nation’s textile heritage.

PM Modi pointed out the significant progress made by India’s textile industry, with a 7% increase in textile and apparel exports last year, ranking India as the sixth-largest exporter globally. He set a target to increase exports to ₹9 lakh crore by 2030, highlighting the importance of skill development, innovation, and sustainability within the sector.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the success of the textile sector lies in its skilled workforce and pointed out the role of the National Centres of Excellence and the Samarth scheme in creating a skilled talent pool. He urged the industry to balance tradition with innovation, citing the importance of maintaining the authenticity of handloom craftsmanship in the age of technology.

PM Modi also addressed the issue of “fast fashion waste” and urged India to leverage its traditional skills in textile recycling and up-cycling. He mentioned the potential of India’s textile recycling market, projected to reach $400 million in the coming years, with the global market for recycled textiles estimated to hit $7.5 billion. The Prime Minister encouraged startups to explore opportunities in this area and emphasized the need for sustainable practices to address the growing issue of fashion waste.

The Prime Minister concluded by expressing his confidence that Bharat Tex 2025 would continue to strengthen India’s position as a leader in the global textile market, contributing significantly to the nation’s economic development.

Union Minister for Textiles, Giriraj Singh, and Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, were also present at the event.
