Kolkata, 8th March.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee reiterated her government’s stance on Thursday, asserting that West Bengal will not allow the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) or the National Register of Citizens (NRC).Speaking at the Trinamool Mahila Wing rally in Kolkata, Banerjee condemned the BJP-led central government over the violence in Manipur, questioning the disparity in response compared to the situation in Bengal.

Banerjee emphasized her opposition to divisive politics and vowed to protect the rights of all citizens, including the Matua community. She also announced measures to address concerns related to the deactivation of Aadhaar cards, reassuring citizens of their democratic, social, and economic rights.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, introduced by the Narendra Modi government, aims to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from neighboring countries. Banerjee’s steadfast opposition comes amidst ongoing protests and debates surrounding the contentious legislation.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He also advocated for the Uniform Civil Code, emphasizing its importance in ensuring secular governance and equal treatment under the law.
