Jodhpur, 11th August. In view of recent unrest in Bangladesh and comments by Congress leaders, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar issued a warning to Indian citizens on Saturday, urging them to “be on watch out.”
Speaking at the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur, Dhankhar slammed Congress leaders Salman Khurshid and Mani Shankar Aiyar for saying that the situation in Bangladesh could occur in India.
Dhankhar questioned how seasoned politicians like Khurshid, who has served as a Member of Parliament, and Aiyar, with his extensive foreign service experience, could make such comparisons.
“Efforts by some to infuse a narrative that ‘Bangladesh can happen in India’ are deeply concerning,” Dhankhar said, condemning the attempts to draw parallels between the two nations.
The remarks follow severe unrest in Bangladesh, which began over quota reforms and escalated into widespread violence, resulting in over 300 deaths. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India, leading to the formation of an interim government under Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. The interim government is urging calm and calling for protection of minority communities targeted during the violence.
Dhankhar’s comments reflect growing concerns about using constitutional platforms for anti-national narratives. He emphasized the need for vigilance against those who might seek to exploit or distort the situation for their own ends.
