Hyderabad, 12th Sept. Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks about Sikhs, alleging that it was former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who was responsible for the massacre of Sikhs.
Speaking during the BJP’s membership drive, Kumar accused the Congress Party and Rahul Gandhi of lacking the moral authority to discuss Sikh issues.
“Rahul Gandhi seems to have forgotten that his grandmother was responsible for the massacre of Sikhs,” Kumar said.
He referenced the violent events surrounding the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and criticized Gandhi’s comments, suggesting they were a distortion of historical facts. Kumar said that Indian society honors Sikh figures like Sardar Bhagat Singh and Chhatrapati Shivaji as champions of justice and valor.
The controversy erupted following Gandhi’s remarks on September 10 during a gathering of Indian Americans in Washington DC. Gandhi criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for allegedly deeming certain religions and communities inferior and focused on the Sikh community’s right to wear turbans and attend gurdwaras in India.
Kumar also branded the Indian National Congress as the “Italian National Congress,” accusing the party of aligning with separatist and terrorist groups.
He warned that if Congress were to return to power, it would lead to the country’s division and criticized their stance on Article 370 and Jammu and Kashmir’s political status.
