Assam: Hijbul Mujahideen terrorist Saidul Alam sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by NIA court

Guwahati, 26th May. The National Investigation Agency(NIA) special court, Guwahati, on Tuesday, convicted Md Saidul Alam, accused in a conspiracy case related to the formation of Hijbul Mujajideen module in Assam.

The accused, Md Saidul Alam, a resident of Hojai district has been sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment with a fine.

The case was initially registered at Jamunamukh Police Station of Hojai district. Later, NIA took over the investigation and re-registered a case on the 5th of October, 2018.

NIA investigations revealed that Saidul Alam and three others tried to build a Hijbul Mujahideen module in Assam. The other two accused Sahnawaj Alam and Omar Faruque we’re convicted by the NIA court on December 23, 2022.

Further investigations revealed that Saidul, along with Kamruj, Sahanawaj and Omar, had planned to unleash bomb blasts and armed terror attacks on civilians in the non-Muslim localities of Lumding and Hojai districts.

“During 2017-2018, they organised a series of meetings in various mosques, such as Milonpur Masjid, Islampur Masjid and Solmari Masjid. The meetings were used to spread the banned outfit’s hardcore fundamentalist ideology, with speeches about alleged atrocities and jihad. Youths attending these meetings were told about the need to raise a module of Hijbul for committing terrorist acts in response to the alleged atrocities etc”, read an official release by NIA.
