Dibrugarh— Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a review meeting at the CM Secretariat in Dibrugarh to review the progress of important development projects in the Demow constituency. The meeting dealt with several projects for enhancing infrastructure, public facilities, and overall development in the area.
Among the most important points of discussion in the meeting were the establishment of a new approach road to medical colleges and cancer institutes, the construction of water bodies in Foklia Beel, and an embankment proposal to divert floodwater during the monsoon season. The Chief Minister also examined the construction of a new district jail in Demow underway.
Besides these, CM Sarma stressed the urgency of completing these projects quickly in order to make the benefits accrue on schedule to the masses. He wanted an intensified tempo of work, especially in terms of infrastructure development, so as to gain maximum benefit to society.
“The target is to ensure that these works are done promptly and in a time-bound manner to benefit Demow people and Assam in general. There will be prompt execution of improving infrastructure, as well as improving healthcare, flood control, and public services within the area,” CM Sarma said in the meeting.
The review also had a more comprehensive examination of ongoing projects in different top sectors, such as Public Works Department (PWD) roads and housing, water resources, urban affairs, energy, panchayats and rural development, health, education, agriculture, industry, finance, and disaster management. The Chief Minister reviewed the status of many initiatives and addressed measures to complete them on time.
Especially in the health department, CM Sarma inspected the development of medical colleges and hospitals in Sivasagar, with an emphasis on their preparedness to meet the growing healthcare demands of the people. He also reviewed the execution of health schemes like PM-JAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana), the creation of ABHA IDs (Ayushman Bharat Health Account), and the Nijut Moina Scheme for enhancing public health services.
The Chief Minister also emphasized the significance of creating workdays and accelerating project implementation in central schemes such as PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin) and MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act). Both schemes are instrumental in creating jobs and developing rural infrastructure in Assam.
Earlier, CM Sarma had presided over a similar meeting with the PWD (B) Department at Lok Sewa Bhawan on February 28, during which he reviewed the progress of a number of big infrastructure projects in the state. These works comprised the construction of an indoor stadium and playground facility at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), co-district commissioners’ offices, a new building for the Gauhati High Court in Guwahati, and a FIFA-approved football field in Nehru Stadium. The Chief Minister also inspected the progress of the boundary wall and outer road development for Assam Engineering College (AEC) at Jalukbari, and the Khanikar Stadium at Dibrugarh.
CM Sarma’s focus on timely project implementation is congruent with the state’s vision of driving economic growth and enhancing public infrastructure. His government still remains intent on delivering projects in a timely manner so that they are able to render real benefits to the people of Assam. As the state goes ahead with such ambitious developmental plans, the leadership of the Chief Minister and his vision for advancement remain key to the success of these endeavors.
