New Delhi, 10th Jan. Recalling his formative years as an NCC cadet, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday urged youth to dream big and prepare themselves to become “changemakers, innovators, and leaders” of tomorrow.

Addressing cadets and officers at the ongoing NCC Republic Day Camp in Delhi Cantonment, General Dwivedi shared his nostalgia and pride, recalling his NCC enrolment number 73727 and the lessons it taught him. He emphasized the transformative role of NCC in shaping young minds and preparing them for leadership roles.

“It’s inspiring to see all of you proudly donning the NCC uniform. As cadets, you are custodians of India’s heritage and future. Dream big, believe in yourselves, and let hard work guide your pursuit of excellence,” said General Dwivedi.

Highlighting achievements, the Army Chief noted that in 2024, 100 boy cadets and 10 girl cadets joined pre-commissioning training academies through NCC entry schemes, while over 8,800 cadets were inducted as Agniveers.

The General praised the cadets’ contributions to community service, including blood donation drives and environmental conservation efforts. He encouraged them to leverage their energy and passion for nation-building.

On the sidelines of the event, he interacted with cadets in the flag area, presented mementoes to outstanding performers, and enjoyed cultural performances showcasing India’s diversity.

General Dwivedi also extended best wishes to the NCC expedition team set to scale Mount Everest later this year. “I look forward to seeing the NCC summit flag atop Mt. Everest,” he said, adding that the team is currently training at the Army Mountaineering Institute in Siachen.

The Republic Day Camp, featuring 2,361 cadets, including 917 girls—the largest-ever female contingent—runs from December 30 to January 27. It will culminate with the PM Rally, a key highlight of the month-long event.

General Dwivedi reaffirmed the Army’s strong association with the NCC, stating that over 12,500 army personnel are engaged in supporting NCC activities, with more than 30,000 cadets participating in attachment training with army units annually.

The Army Chief concluded by expressing confidence in the cadets’ potential to contribute meaningfully to India’s growth and transformation.
