New Delhi, 10th May: Shortly after the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, the Indian armed forces today delivered a stern warning to Pakistan, asserting that while they will adhere to the understanding, they remain “fully prepared” and “ever-vigilant” and any future escalation will be met with a “decisive response.”
During a government briefing following the ceasefire decision, Commodore Raghu R Nair emphasized the military’s stance. “While we will be adhering to the understanding reached today, we remain fully prepared and ever-vigilant and committed to defending the sovereignty and integrity of the motherland,” he stated. Commodore Nair warned, “Every misadventure by Pakistan has been met with strength and every future escalation will invite a decisive response. We remain fully operationally ready to launch whatever operations may be required in defence of the nation.” He also noted that since the Pahalgam terror attack, India’s responses have been “measured” and “very responsible,” and underlined the significant amount of misinformation spread by Pakistan.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, articulating the position of the Indian forces, directly refuted claims made by Pakistan. She dismissed Pakistan’s assertion that its JF-17 aircraft damaged India’s S 400 air defence system and BrahMos missile base as “completely wrong.” Colonel Qureshi also trashed Pakistan’s claims of damaging Indian airfields and ammunition dumps, stating these were part of Pakistan’s “misinformation campaign.” Addressing Pakistan’s false allegations that Indian forces damaged mosques, she clarified, “India is a secular nation and our army is a very beautiful reflection of the constitutional value of India.” She added that Indian armed forces inflicted heavy damage on Pakistan’s land and air assets and are “completely ready, alert and fully committed to protecting India’s security and sovereignty.”
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh reiterated that India’s operations only targeted terrorist camps and facilities used for anti-India activities. She detailed the impact on Pakistan, stating they had suffered “heavy and unsustainable losses after an unprovoked attack on our installations.” Singh highlighted “extensive damage to crucial Pakistani airbases – Skardu, Jacobabad and Bholari” and a “loss of air defence weapon systems and radars” which made Pakistani airspace defence untenable. She added there were “big setbacks for Pakistan along the Line of Control” too, including damage to military infrastructure, command control centres, and logistic installations.
The ceasefire itself was announced after Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan agreed that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, air, and sea from 5:00 PM IST today. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that instructions had been given to give effect to this understanding and that the DGMOs would talk again on May 12 at 1200 hours. Mr. Misri also mentioned that it was the Pakistan DGMO who initiated the call. Earlier, US President Donald Trump had claimed that Washington DC had mediated the truce between the neighbours.
