Rajkot, 13th April. Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday called upon the current as well as the future generations to connect with their cultural roots and propagate India’s rich legacy among the masses.

Thakur was addressing the legendary Madhavpur Ghed festival on Tuesday.

The Union Minister lauded PM Modi for the revival of India’s lost heritage through the development of pilgrimage centres such as Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath, Kedarnath and improving the connectivity for the Char Dham temples.

Thakur said, “it is under Modi that the Kedarnath temple has seen a grand uplift, while the grandeur of the Somnath temple, which was restored by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, has also achieved new highs under the prime minister”

He recalled that the Madhavpur Ghed festival is celebrated to mark the marriage of Lord Krishna and Rukmini, who hailed from present-day Arunachal Pradesh.

Thakur said that the festival is the symbol of connecting the people of India and it brings together the far east of the country and the west.

On the developmental projects in the northeast, the Union Minister said the “Look East” policy has become the “Act East” policy only under the Modi government, adding that the northeastern states have seen unprecedented development in infrastructure and facilities since the current government took charge in 2014.

The Union Minister said that while India gained political independence in 1947, cultural independence was not achieved and it is only in 2014 that cultural nationalism became a crucial part of political discourse.

The Minister exhorted the current and future generations to connect with their cultural roots and said it was our responsibility that stories from our cultural legacy are propagated among the masses.

Thakur recalled his recent visit to Abu Dhabi and said it was because of the harmonious relations established under the Prime Minister that a Gulf country will now be home to a grand Swaminarayan Temple.

Anurag Thakur promised that the Ministry of I&B along with its media units will promote the festival and add to its magnificence.

The Madhavpur Ghed Festival is being held from 10th to 13th April 2022. The festival was inaugurated by the President of India and is being organised by the Government of Gujarat in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.
