New Delhi, 16th Nov. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has pledged that the Modi government’s crackdown on drug cartels will continue “ruthlessly” as part of its commitment to a drug-free Bharat.
In his post on ‘X’, Shah praised the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for its significant success, stating, “Back-to-back major breakthroughs against illegal drugs in a single day demonstrate the Modi government’s unwavering resolve to build a drug-free Bharat.”
The NCB, on Friday, confiscated a staggering 82.53 kg of high-grade cocaine in New Delhi, with the massive consignment valued at approximately ₹900 crore. The drugs were discovered after a strategic investigation using a bottom-to-top approach, which began with the seizure of a smaller quantity of drugs from a courier center in Delhi.
The cocaine haul is part of a major operation targeting the international drug trafficking syndicates operating in the Delhi-NCR region. The seizure was made in the Janakpuri and Nangloi areas of Delhi on November 14, 2024, following intelligence gathered from earlier drug busts in March and August 2024. The NCB used human and technical intelligence to trace the source of the consignment.
The initial discovery was from a parcel at a Delhi courier shop, which was destined for Australia. Through a thorough investigation and backtracking method, the NCB traced the bulk of the drugs hidden in two locations in the city. The drugs were part of an international network, with syndicate members operating across borders. The NCB has arrested two key operatives, one from Delhi and the other from Sonipat, while investigations continue to identify other members and the foreign linkages involved in the trafficking.
The NCB’s efforts to tackle drug trafficking through courier services have also led to regular capacity-building programs for other Drug Law Enforcement Agencies (DLEAs) and sensitization initiatives for courier companies and India Post to prevent such crimes.
Amit Shah reiterated that the Modi government’s relentless pursuit of drug cartels will continue, and the recent seizures stand as a testament to the government’s commitment to combating the drug menace across the country.
