Panaji, 1st April. Congress restructured the party’s Goa unit on Thursday and appointed Amit Patkar as its new president of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).

A release issued by the party said, “Congress president has appointed Amit Patkar as PCC president and Yuri Alemao as working president.”

The party further said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has appointed former Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat as a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) with immediate effect.

Savio D’Silva has been appointed as the DCC president for South Goa and Viren Shirodkar for the Goa North DCC.

Goa is the second state after Manipur where Congress has appointed a new party president after the party’s election debacle in five states.

The restructure came after the Congress party failed to wrest power from the Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa.

Sonia Gandhi had asked the Pradesh Congress Committee presidents of the five states that went to elections recently to resign in the wake of the party’s drubbing in the polls.
