Nadia, 16th August. In a historic first, an all-women unit of the Border Security Force (BSF) from India’s 32nd Battalion made a symbolic gesture by exchanging sweets and greetings with their female counterparts from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Gede border post in West Bengal. This event, held on August 15, marked the first-ever all-women border guards’ exchange along the international boundary.

The six-member BSF team, dressed in ceremonial attire, engaged in the traditional exchange with the BGB’s 6th Battalion, stationed at the Darshana border post in Bangladesh. This ceremonial event symbolizes mutual respect and camaraderie between the two border forces, reaffirming their commitment to strong bilateral relations.

Despite heightened security following the recent political changes in Bangladesh, the ceremonial exchange proceeded as a gesture of goodwill. Typically, such exchanges occur during major national festivals and significant events, but this marks the first time an all-women team has performed this tradition along the 4,096 km-long border.

BSF Commandant Sujeet Kumar emphasized the importance of these gestures, stating, “The exchange of greetings and sharing of sweets highlights the mutual respect between the forces. It’s a tradition that underscores our shared commitment to maintaining peace and cooperation along the border.”
