All Grade 6 Textbooks Available by July 2024: NCERT Clarifies Misleading Reports

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 10th July.
In response to the misleading news item published in The Hindu on 9th July 2024, titled “Confusion over revised NCERT textbooks for classes VI, IX, and XI leave teachers in a tizzy,” the NCERT has issued a clarification to set the record straight.

The article falsely claimed that:

  • Class VI NCERT textbooks would take another two months to reach students.
  • There was confusion about whether revised textbooks for classes IX and XI were included alongside classes III and VI.
  • Class IX English and Geography, and class XI Computer Science, Chemistry, and History textbooks are not printed.
Clarifications:

Grade 6 Textbooks Availability: All Grade 6 textbooks will be made available by NCERT within July 2024. The two-month delay mentioned in the article is incorrect. To facilitate a smooth transition from the old to the new curriculum, NCERT has provided a month-long bridge programme in all ten subject areas for Grade 6, currently being used for teaching.

Curriculum and Textbooks for Other Classes: It was communicated in March 2024, via CBSE’s circular no. Acad. 29/2024 dated March 22, 2024, that for all classes other than 3 and 6, there is no change to the existing curriculum or textbooks. Schools have been advised to continue using the same textbooks as in the previous academic year (2023-24).

Supply of Textbooks to RPDC Bangalore: The RPDC Bangalore, catering to all South Indian States including Tamil Nadu, has reported no shortage of textbooks. The NCERT Publication Division has met the title-wise demand for Class 9 and 11 textbooks received from RPDC Bangalore.

This clarification is to dispel any confusion and ensure that teachers, students, and parents are correctly informed about the availability and status of NCERT textbooks.
