Alert Loco Pilot Averts Major Train Disaster in Kanpur; LPG Cylinder Found on Tracks

Kanpur, 9th Sept. A train accident was narrowly avoided thanks to the quick actions of an alert loco pilot, who brought the Bhiwani-Prayagraj Kalindi Express to an emergency stop after it collided with an LPG cylinder placed on the tracks in Kanpur. The incident occurred around 8:20 PM on Sunday, prompting immediate action from senior officials and multiple investigating agencies.

The loco pilot’s swift response prevented what could have been a catastrophic derailment. The train struck the LPG cylinder, which was subsequently thrown off the tracks. A bottle of petrol and matchboxes were also discovered at the site, indicating a potential sabotage attempt.

The police have registered an FIR and launched a comprehensive investigation involving the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and other relevant agencies. Senior officials have formed five investigative teams, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Harish Chandra reported that the train was stopped at Bilhaur station for inspection and remained at the incident site for about 20 minutes. The damaged cylinder and other evidence have been recovered for forensic analysis.

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Prashant Kumar assured that the situation is being taken seriously and that all aspects of the incident are under scrutiny. The Railway Protection Force and forensic teams are actively involved in the investigation.

Political reactions have emerged following the incident. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia condemned the act and vowed strong action against the perpetrators, while BSP chief Mayawati emphasized the need for strict measures to ensure rail safety and public security.

The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the details and motives behind this alarming incident.
