New Delhi: Ajay Seth, a senior bureaucrat and current Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, has been appointed as the new Finance Secretary, according to an official order issued on Monday.
Seth, a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Karnataka cadre, takes on the role following the recent appointment of Tuhin Kant Pandey as the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), which left the post vacant.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Seth’s designation as Finance Secretary, the Personnel Ministry stated.
As per convention, the senior-most secretary in the Union Finance Ministry is designated as the Finance Secretary. Seth’s extensive experience in economic affairs is expected to bolster the Ministry’s financial governance and policy formulation.
