Chennai, 25th Sept. The AIADMK announced its split from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Monday, saying it would lead a separate front in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The decision to leave the NDA was made at a high-level meeting at the AIADMK headquarters here, presided over by party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Former Minister and senior leader K P Munusamy told reporters that the party has unanimously decided to split from the NDA and lead a coalition of like-minded parties in the next year’s elections.

The resolution, which did not name anyone, stated that the BJP’s state leadership has recently defamed Dravidian stalwarts, the late CN Annadurai and late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, besides criticizing its policies.

The Dravidian party was clearly upset with BJP state president K Annamalai, whose remarks regarding Annadurai had caused a schism between the two former allies.

The AIADMK meeting was attended by top party officials, district secretaries, MLAs, and MPs.

Amid bursting of crackers at the party headquarters here, Munsamy said the unanimous decision honours the sentiments and aspirations of over two crore party workers.
