Bengaluru, 28th August. Cropin Technology Solutions, an AI-driven startup in the food and agriculture sector, has launched a groundbreaking real-time intelligence solution aimed at forecasting future yields for 13 key crops. This innovation comes as artificial intelligence continues to address critical challenges in the farming industry.
Introducing Sage: A New Era of Predictive Agriculture
The Bangalore-based company unveiled its new product, Sage, which is powered by Google Gemini AI, a model developed by Alphabet Inc. Sage transforms global agricultural landscapes into a proprietary grid-based map, providing highly accurate predictive intelligence based on historical data. Decision-makers can use this tool to inquire about crop performance, life cycles, climate impact, farming practices, and soil conditions for 13 essential crops that make up 80% of the world’s food supply.
Krishna Kumar, Cropin’s founder and CEO, highlighted the significance of this technology, stating, “Predicting the future of a particular crop is a major leap, and we see entire industries go into turbulence on account of shortfall in, say, cocoa or orange crop.”
AI’s Role in Global Food Security
As the global population grows and concerns over food security intensify, generative AI and large language models like Sage have the potential to revolutionize modern agriculture, especially in a climate-impacted world. Cropin’s solution is designed to assist a wide range of customers, including consumer packaged goods companies, seed manufacturers, financial institutions, and governments, in planning crop production and making informed decisions about cultivation.
The technology integrates generative AI with over four decades of climate data, earth data, and knowledge graphs to analyze each crop at a country-specific level. This allows for precise predictions on how a crop will perform in the current season, next year, or even over the next five years.
Kumar provided an example during a video call, noting, “We have the technology to predict, for example, which variety of potato will yield optimally in certain grids in Idaho or in Kenya, helping a prominent chipmaker customer to plan their supply chain.”
Revolutionizing Agriculture with Predictive Intelligence
With the global agricultural land spanning 4.8 billion hectares, Cropin’s innovation is set to play a crucial role in managing food production and addressing challenges in supply chains, ensuring that industries can better prepare for and respond to agricultural trends and potential shortages.
Cropin’s Sage represents a significant advancement in the use of AI for agricultural forecasting, potentially transforming the way the world approaches food production and security.
