Chandigarh, 9th Oct. The BJP named party leader Kuldeep Bishnoi’s son Bhavya as its candidate for the assembly bypoll in Adampur slated to be held next month.
The bypoll was called after Kuldeep Bishnoi resigned as a Congress MLA in August and left the party with his son. Both later became members of the BJP.
The byelection will be a litmus test for Kuldeep Bishnoi, the younger son of late chief minister Bhajan Lal, because the seat has been a family stronghold for the past five decades.
Kuldeep Bishnoi tweeted in Hindi shortly after his son’s name was announced, “Heartfelt gratitude to all the top leadership of the party for making Bhavya Bishnoi the candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party in the Adampur by-election.”
Satender Singh, a former BJP member, has been nominated by the Aam Aadmi Party. The Congress has not yet chosen a candidate.
Kuldeep Bishnoi stated that the people of Adampur will vote for the BJP candidate, upholding his family’s long-standing relationship with the constituency.
Bhavya Bishnoi thanked the party’s leadership for their confidence in him. He stated that he will do his best to meet the expectations of the public and his party.
He referred to Adampur’s residents as his family. He said, ““I am sure Adampur will win this time as usual”.
After joining the BJP, Bishnoi made it abundantly clear that he wanted his son to run in the byelection.
He stated on Thursday that the people of Adampur want his son to run in the byelection and that he has conveyed this sentiment to the party.
The byelections will be held on November 3, and the votes will be counted on November 6.
