New Delhi, 10th July. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar and former Delhi minister Raaj Kumar Anand joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday in the national capital. The joining ceremony took place in the presence of Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and national general secretary Arun Singh.
Kartar Singh Tanwar, a prominent figure in Delhi politics, and Raaj Kumar Anand, who previously served as a minister in the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government, made their move amid ongoing political turmoil within AAP.
Raaj Kumar Anand, a Dalit leader who had been vocal against corruption within AAP, parted ways with the party in April following the arrest of AAP’s convener in an excise case. Expressing his disillusionment with AAP’s direction, Anand stated, “AAP was founded to combat corruption, but today it is mired in it. It became untenable for me to continue in the party.”
An MLA from the Patel Nagar constituency, Raaj Kumar Anand won the 2020 Delhi Assembly Election with a significant margin. He served as the Minister of Social Welfare and held additional portfolios including Labour and Employment, SC and ST, Land and Building, Cooperative, and Gurudwara Elections departments.
Critiquing AAP’s leadership, Anand highlighted the absence of Dalit representation among the party’s top ranks. He also took a swipe at Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership amidst the ongoing legal issues, remarking, “Politics hasn’t changed despite promises made at Jantar Mantar. The leader has changed.”
Kartar Singh Tanwar, a seasoned politician from Chhatarpur, brings his influence to BJP’s fold, aiming to strengthen the party’s prospects ahead of upcoming elections.
