New Delhi, 13th Jan. A day after AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal received notices over his alleged links to a syndicate facilitating illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of settling “Bangladeshis and Rohingyas” across the country for electoral gains. Singh held the Union Home Minister Amit Shah responsible, stressing that border security falls under the Centre’s jurisdiction.
At a press conference on Monday, Singh alleged, “For the last 10 and a half years, the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Foreign Minister, all from the BJP, have been settling Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in India. They have deceived the country for election benefits.” He questioned how these immigrants had crossed the borders from Bangladesh and Myanmar, passed through various states, and reached Delhi.
Singh further demanded answers on how many of these immigrants had been deported, specifically targeting the routes through West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh.
The senior AAP leader also raised the issue of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s whereabouts, suggesting that she might be a key figure linked to the influx of illegal immigrants. “Where have you kept her?” Singh questioned, referencing Hasina’s visit to India following anti-government protests in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the BJP intensified its criticism of AAP following reports of Goyal’s alleged involvement in the syndicate. Smriti Irani, BJP leader, claimed that an investigative agency had discovered the signatures and seals of Goyal and fellow AAP MLA Jai Bhagwan on Aadhaar update forms for 26 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
Goyal, in response, announced plans to file a defamation case against Irani and BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi over the accusations. The political blame game continues as both parties trade allegations, with the issue of illegal immigration taking center stage.
