AAP Calls for Amit Shah’s Resignation After SC’s ‘Caged Parrot’ Comment at CBI

New Delhi, 13th Sept. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday demanded the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah after Supreme Court judge Justice Ujjal Bhuyan criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Justice Bhuyan urged the agency to dispel the perception of being a “caged parrot.”

The Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal in a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, asserting that prolonged imprisonment was an unjust deprivation of liberty.

During a press conference, Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said the Supreme Court’s remarks were not just an indictment of the CBI but also of the central government. He added, “The Union Home Minister should resign as this raises questions on him. The Supreme Court called the CBI a caged parrot.”

Atishi, another Delhi minister, accused the BJP-led central government of misusing investigative agencies to target AAP leaders. “Multiple raids were conducted, yet no illegal wealth was found. The Supreme Court’s decision to grant Kejriwal bail is a slap on the face of Shah, the home ministry, the Centre, and the CBI. Shah should resign before Kejriwal is released,” she said.

In his separate judgment, Justice Bhuyan questioned the timing of Kejriwal’s arrest by the CBI, suggesting it was aimed at thwarting his bail in an Enforcement Directorate (ED) case. Justice Bhuyan emphasized the importance of the CBI maintaining an image of impartiality, stating that in a democracy governed by the rule of law, “perception matters.”

Justice Surya Kant, however, found no illegality in the CBI’s arrest of Kejriwal but echoed the need for the agency to maintain public confidence.
