‘Glorious Century Rests at God’s Feet,’ says PM Narendra Modi on Mother Heeraben’s Demise

Gandhinagar, 30th Dec. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a moving tribute to his mother Heeraben on Friday after her demise. Prime Minister Modi said that he always felt the presence of a trinity in her, combining an ascetic’s journey, a selfless doer, and a life committed to values.

Heeraben Modi, PM Modi’s mother, died on Friday in an Ahmedabad hospital. She was 99 years old.

The news was announced in a bulletin from the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre, where she was admitted on Wednesday after her health deteriorated.

“Heeraben Modi passed away on 30/12/2022 at 3.30 am during the treatment at U N Mehta Heart Hospital,” the medical bulletin said.

“A glorious century rests at God’s feet,” PM Modi said in a tweet.

Prime Minister Modi recalled that when he met her on her 100th birthday, she had told him: “work with intelligence and live life with purity”.

Modi arrived in Ahmedabad from Delhi on Wednesday afternoon and went to see his ailing mother. He stayed at the hospital for over an hour and spoke with doctors there.

Heeraben, also known as Hiraba, lived in Raysan village near Gandhinagar with Modi’s younger brother Pankaj Modi. During his visits to Gujarat, the prime minister paid frequent visits to Raysan and spent time with his mother.
