Ranchi, 10th Nov. The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to appear in Ranchi on November 17 for questioning in a money laundering case allegedly linked to illegal mining in the state.
Soren, 47, was initially summoned by the federal investigation agency on November 3 but did not appear, citing official obligations. He then requested a three-week postponement of the summons.
According to official sources, the agency has now requested that the CM appear next week on November 17 at its regional office in Ranchi for questioning and recording of his statement in accordance with the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
In this case, the ED has arrested Soren’s political aide Pankaj Mishra as well as two others — local muscleman Bachhu Yadav and Prem Prakash.
The agency has said it has “identified” proceeds of crime relating to illegal mining in the state to the tune of more than Rs 1,000 crore till now.
