New Delhi, 2nd Oct. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his Jayanti today at Rajghat.

Gandhi Ji’s birth anniversary is celebrated worldwide as the International Day of Non-Violence, highlighting his nonviolent approach to bringing about social or political change.

Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar town of Gujarat, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, known as Mahatma Gandhi, adopted a non-violent resistance and was at the forefront of the freedom struggle against colonial British rule. This led to India finally achieving its independence in 1947.

Fondly known as Bapu, his unwavering belief in ‘Swaraj’ (self-governance) and ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) won him accolades across the world.

Gandhi Ji’s birth anniversary is observed worldwide as the International Day of Nonviolence. Several events are being held in India and around the world to commemorate the occasion.
