Hyderabad, 23rd August. Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar was detained by Telangana Police in Jangaon district on Tuesday.

BJP leader and official spokesperson NV Subash confirmed his detention.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Hyderabad Police arrested BJP MLA Raja Singh for allegedly making a blasphemous remark about Prophet Muhammad.

On Tuesday morning, the Hyderabad South Zone Police filed a FIR against Raja Singh.

The Dabeerpura Police Station filed a FIR against him under sections 153a, 295, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code.

Protests erupted in parts of Hyderabad late Monday after Singh, the MLA from Goshamahal, allegedly made the remarks in a video.

Protesters gathered in front of the city Police Commissioner’s office, demanding that the BJP MLA be arrested immediately. The protesters were apprehended by police at the commissioner’s office in Basheer Bagh and taken to several police stations.

According to the inspector at the Dabeerpura police station, over 250 people gathered last night to protest in front of the Dabeerpura police station, claiming that Raja Singh had shared a derogatory video about the Prophet and had abused and hurt the community’s religious sentiments.

“We immediately took all the details from them and registered a case under relevant sections of IPC and further probe into the case has been initiated,” Inspector Dabeerpura police station said.

The protesters were apprehended by police at the commissioner’s office in Basheer Bagh and shifted to various police stations.

The BJP MLA was put under house arrest on August 19 after protesting standup comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show in Hyderabad on August 20.
