New Delhi, 19th July. ‘Mr Ballot Box,’ carrying votes cast by lawmakers in Monday’s presidential election in states and union territories, began their unique voyage back to the national capital shortly after the polls closed.
The Delhi Legislative Assembly vote box arrived late Monday night, while ballot boxes from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Assam, and Rajasthan arrived on separate commercial planes.
‘Mr Ballot Box’ occupied the first row of the aircraft, which was being accompanied by the Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) of their different states.
The Election Commission posted photographs of the sealed ballot boxes onboard flights accompanied by the respective AROs.
The Telangana ballot box was shown being taken to a secure chamber in Hyderabad before beginning its journey to the national capital on Tuesday.
According to an Election Commission official, vote boxes from state capitals with direct early morning flights to Delhi will be here by Tuesday midday.
Ballot boxes from states with no direct flights will arrive by Tuesday evening.
Ballot boxes from Himachal Pradesh are most likely to arrive via road.
Each ballot box is given an e-ticket with the name Mr Ballot Box, according to the EC.
Voting occurs in the Parliament and state legislative assemblies since elected MPs and MLAs are permitted to participate in presidential elections.
The Parliament building and 30 centres within state legislative assembly were among the 31 locations where voting took place on Monday between 10 am and 5 pm, according to the Election Commission.
On July 21, the votes will be tallied.
