New Delhi, 22nd June. The Janata Dal (United) has formally declared that it will back NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu in the upcoming election.
JD (U) national president Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh made the announcement on Wednesday via Twitter.
He wrote, “Janata Dal (U) welcomes and supports the candidature of Draupadi Murmu ji. My heartiest congratulations on being nominated for the presidential election.”
“Draupadi Murmu, a tribal woman born in a poor family, is the candidate for the presidential election. Honourable Chief Minister of Bihar Shri @NitishKumar ji has been devoted in principle to women empowerment and the exploited sections of the society,” Singh said in another tweet.
Chirag Paswan, the leader of the Lok Jan Shakti Party, has also backed Murmu.
He tweeted, “It is a matter of pride for us that Draupadi Murmu Ji has been nominated as the Presidential candidate by NDA. This would be the first time in the country that a daughter coming from a tribal society would assume the responsibility of the highest post in the country. LJP (Ram Vilas) fully supports this decision of the BJP.”
“Despite coming from a tribal society, the position that Draupadi Murmu Ji has achieved today is the result of her ability and struggle. The claim for the highest position of the country from the deprived section of the society is inspiring for crores of Indians,” he further said.
Draupadi Murmu will become India’s first tribal president if she is elected. Also, after Pratibha Patil, she will be the second woman to lead the nation if she wins the election. She will become the first President from the state of Odisha if she wins.
Former Jharkhand governor and former minister Droupadi Murmu was announced as the BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate on Tuesday.
