New Delhi, 21st June. On Tuesday, the BJP will commemorate the eighth International Yoga Day by holding yoga sessions at 75,000 locations across the country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the massive exercise at a yoga event in Mysuru, Karnataka.

Sudhanshu Trivedi, a BJP spokesperson, said during a press conference on Monday that the party’s Union ministers and chief ministers, as well as elected representatives such as MPs and MLAs and the organization’s office-bearers, will attend yoga sessions.

With COVID-19 stalling any major public event on the yoga day for the last two years, the party has decided to hold the exercise in a big way this year, he said.

J P Nadda, the BJP’s president, will attend a yoga session in Noida, while Home Minister Amit Shah will be in Delhi.

As part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ an ongoing exercise to commemorate India’s 75th year of independence, the party will host yoga programmes at 75,000 locations, according to Trivedi.

He said that the international acceptance of yoga since the United Nations (UN) declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day in December 2014 after the proposal from the Modi government, symbolizes the rise of India’s cultural power.

Trivedi, who is also a member of the Rajya Sabha, claimed that India has the world’s largest cultural influence, but that it was “unfortunate” that previous governments did not put it to good use.

It was only after Narendra Modi became prime minister that on his proposal the UN decided on observing the International Yoga Day, Trivedi said and said that 177 of 193 UN members were co-sponsors of the proposal.

It was India’s diplomatic success, Trivedi added.
