NIA Raids Multiple Locations In J&K

Jammu, 20th June. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at multiple places in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday in connection with a terror attack case.

The raids were carried out primarily at the locations of suspects in south Kashmir, with the help of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officers.

According to sources, the raids were carried out in connection with a case involving an attack on security forces in Darasgarh, Pulwama, on March 11 this year.

The NIA investigators are said to have picked a few suspects for questioning in the case from their home. The news comes just days after the NIA raided four locations in the Union Territory, including three in Baramulla and one in Handwara district, in connection with a cross-border trade and terror financing case.

The case concerns the generation of additional revenues via a cross-LoC trade mechanism between Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), as well as the use of cash earned for terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

The trade began in 2008 through two Trade Facilitation Centres (TFCs) in Salamabad, Uri, Baramulla District, and Chakan-da-Bagh, Poonch District.

Following accusations that it was being “misused” by individuals from across the border to smuggle firearms, narcotics, and fake currency, India halted cross-LoC trade at two places along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir indefinitely on April 18, 2019.

On December 16, 2016, the NIA registered the case suo moto. The LoC trade between Chakan-Da-Bagh in Jammu’s Poonch district and Salamabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district was meant as a confidence-building measure (CBM) for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and those living across the LoC in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Pok).
