New Delhi, 7th May. The Kashmir Files film director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s on Tuesday had claimed that he has been banned “undemocratically” by the Press Club of India.

Refuting the claims made by Agnihotri, the PCI has now shared its response saying Film Director Vivek Agnihotri’s comments are misleading.

The PCI in its response said, “The Press Club of India is not facilitating any event on May 5 by any individual or organisation. The Club allows press conferences only with advanced booking. There is a due process, and bookings have to be done through a member of the Club.”

The letter issued by the Press Club of India read, “Mr Vivek Agnihotri’s comments are misleading. The said agency may have spoken to our Office Secretary for a booking.”

However, the Press Club of India is not in receipt of any application for booking for a press conference on his behalf for any event on May 5, 2022, the letter added.

The letter read, “As mentioned earlier, there is a system in place for making such bookings, which involves a recommendation from a PC member.”

The PCI also shared a receipt and said, “As regards the booking on March 10, we reiterate that bookings can only be confirmed upon getting a member’s signature. The receipt of March 10, referred in the tweet, was for another event. The applicant cancelled the booking before they could submit a signature and the money was refunded.”

For the unversed, film director Vivek Agnihotri had posted a video on Tuesday (May 3) claiming his free speech was banned by “the watchdogs of free speech” with FCC cancelling his event and announced he would hold his media interaction at the Press Club instead. When PCI also appeared to backtrack, Agnihotri followed it up with a tweet on Wednesday criticizing the organisation.

“Wow! @PCITweets also cancelled me. The watchdogs of democracy and messiah of free speech not only banned me undemocratically but are also lying through their teeth,” Vivek Agnihotri tweeted, sharing screenshots of messages of an agency directed to book PCI for the event.
