On Wednesday, the CPI(M) urged all secular parties to form the broadest possible front to defeat the BJP in elections and combat its Hindutva agenda, which was dividing the country along communal lines.
Mr Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of the CPI(M), said at the opening of the CPI(M) 23rd party congress in Kerala’s Kannur district, that all political parties that swear by secularism should “rise to the occasion and come together to discharge this patriotic duty.” “The Congress, along with some regional parties, must put their houses in order and decide where they stand in protecting the secular and democratic character of the Indian republic,” he added.
Every fundamental pillar of the Constitution, according to Mr. Yechury, is under attack today, including secular democracy, federalism, social justice, and economic sovereignty. “Even while destroying the lives of the majority of people, undermining the fundamentals of the Constitution, and undermining the independence of independent institutions, the BJP-RSS has succeeded in creating an overarching Hindutva identity in our country,” we must acknowledge. This is their mainstay, and they are polarizing Indian society by exacerbating communal polarisation, spreading hatred, and encouraging violence,” he said.
According to the CPI(M) general secretary, implementing the fascistic RSS agenda of Hindu Rashtra necessitated a unitary state structure, which was diametrically opposed to the federal state structure established by the Indian Constitution. He claimed that the BJP government was undermining the secular, independent authority of every single institution established by the Constitution, beginning with Parliament, in order to achieve this goal.
“Laws are enacted without debate in Parliament.” The independence of the judiciary, the Election Commission, the CBI, the ED… each of these institutions is being jeopardised in a determined attempt to aggressively carry forward their agenda. While doing so, they pay little attention to the problems of the common man. There will be no relief.
Other speakers at the inaugural session included Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI General Secretary D. Raja, former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, and others. The party congress is being attended by over 800 delegates and observers from various states and Union territories.
