New Delhi, 3rd Dec. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that more 1,40,000 CCTV cameras will be installed in the city soon.
He said that his government had earlier installed 2,75,000 CCTV cameras in the national capital, which has increased public security and helped in identification of criminals.
“Delhi has the most CCTV cameras per square kilometre in the world,” said Kejriwal in a virtual brief. He said that Delhi has 1,826 CCTV cameras per square mile. “London comes in second with 1,138,” he added.
“Delhi is far ahead of London, New York, and Paris…that many CCTV cameras have been installed. Chennai is second in the country in terms of CCTV cameras, with Delhi having three times the number. There are 11 times as many cameras in Delhi as there are in Mumbai,” Kejriwal added. This has aided the police in solving crimes, said Kejriwal.
In the second phase, the Delhi government will install 1,40,000 more cameras.
The cameras have helped the authorities and the police system to identify the criminals. He said that this surveillance has increased the sense of security among women and helps the police a lot in nabbing the criminals.
