Raipur, 8th Sep. Governor Anusuiya Uikey addressed the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Cartoon Watch magazine in the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan. She said that completing 25 years of cartoon based magazines is a big achievement. She said, “Cartoon is a genre that presents the most difficult situations in a very simple and easy way. There is a message hidden in the cartoon. Cartoonists take a dig at the problems and evils of society through cartoons. Also, sometimes a positive message is also provided through it.”
On this occasion, the Governor, Speaker of the Assembly Dr. Charandas Mahant, former Minister and MLA Brijmohan Agrawal inaugurated the function by drawing a cartoon on the drawing board.
The Governor said that in our country, there were great cartoonists like R.K. Laxman, Sudhir Tailang, Abid Surti, Mario Miranda, who made cartoons on contemporary issues of the country and also attracted public attention. There are many names in these, people used to buy newspapers only to see cartoon columns. We also used to introduce young children to many stories through comics. Today the practice of this mode has been relatively less. Animation, TV and many programs coming in the channel have taken over. There is a need to keep this mode alive and keep giving information to the new generations.
She said that when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime Minister, he had told his cartoonist friend Shankar Pillai that Shankar, don’t spare me too. At that time there was tolerance that leaders were happy to see their cartoons and understood the hidden meaning in them and improved themselves. Today the situation has changed, tolerance is decreasing and people have started considering only the admirer as their friend.
The Governor said that it is a great task to dedicate one’s life to such a difficult discipline and complete twenty five years successfully for such an art which is getting extinct, for which space has started shrinking in the newspapers.
Dr. Charan Das Mahant said that cartoonists, satirists or painters follow the path of Kabir Das ji. They always act bold, fair and fearless. They draw words and feelings in lines, which is an extremely difficult task. He congratulated Traimbak Sharma on completing 25 years of Cartoon Watch magazine.
Former minister and senior MLA Brijmohan Agarwal said that publishing a magazine based on a cartoon-like genre continuously for 25 years is a difficult task, as well as a great achievement. It requires dedication as well as dedication. Nowadays kids always watch TV. I keep watching cartoons. But publishing it in the form of a magazine is a challenging task.
