New Team to Take Charge on June 1

New Delhi, 30th May: In a warm and democratic display of journalistic unity, the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia (FCC) has elected a new leadership team for the 2025–27 term. Leading the charge is veteran journalist Dr SH Waiel Awwad, who has been elected President following a smooth and transparent election held on May 24.
The outgoing President S Venkat Narayan, in a heartfelt message to members, praised the election process as a reflection of the FCC’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and professionalism. “Every voice was heard, every vote respected,” he noted, applauding both the members and Election Officer Mr Amit Sharma for their dedication.
Dr Awwad, a well-respected Syrian-born geopolitical analyst, brings over 40 years of journalistic experience, with deep expertise in South Asian and Arab affairs. His election marks a significant moment for the FCC, highlighting the club’s increasingly global perspective.
Joining him are Prakash Nanda as Secretary, a senior journalist and strategic affairs author with over 35 years of experience, and PM Narayanan, a seasoned television reporter who has covered South Asia extensively for German media, as Treasurer.

The new leadership will officially take over on June 1, 2025.
In his farewell note, Narayan wished the incoming team success and expressed hope that they would continue upholding the values of journalistic integrity and collaboration. “Our community thrives when we support one another and embrace change with professionalism and purpose,” he wrote.
The FCC’s newly elected team promises to carry forward this legacy with renewed energy and vision for the next two years.
