Dacia Bigster Achieves 3-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

GG News Bureau
Mumbai, 22nd May:
The Dacia Bigster, a larger SUV built on the Dacia Duster platform, has secured a 3-star safety rating in the recent Euro NCAP crash tests. This assessment highlights the SUV’s performance in areas such as side-impact protection, whiplash injury mitigation, and overall safety features.

The Dacia Bigster comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite, including six airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, and load limiters. For child safety, it features a front passenger airbag cut-off switch, a seat belt reminder, and Isofix child anchor points. To bolster its crash test performance, the vehicle incorporates Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB) systems for vulnerable road users, motorcyclists, and car-to-car collisions. It also includes speed assistance, lane assist, and a system to detect driver fatigue and distraction.

Here’s a breakdown of its scores:

  • Adult Occupant Safety: The Bigster achieved 27.7 points, translating to 69%. In frontal offset crash tests, the passenger compartment remained stable, offering good protection for the knees and femurs of both the driver and front passenger. However, chest protection for the driver was rated as weak. In the full-width rigid barrier test, chest protection for both the driver and rear passenger was deemed marginal. Side impact tests demonstrated excellent protection for all critical body areas, earning maximum points. Despite this, the absence of far-side impact protection measures led to a poor rating in that specific category.
  • Child Occupant Safety: The Dacia Bigster scored 42 points, or 85%. Both 6- and 10-year-old child dummies were well protected during frontal and side impact tests. The vehicle allows for the deactivation of the front passenger airbag for rearward-facing child seats and provides clear guidance on this feature. However, it lacks a child presence detection system.
  • Pedestrian and Cyclist Protection: The SUV received 38.2 points, or 60%. The bonnet offers decent protection in most areas, but the base of the windscreen and its pillars provided poor safety. The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed well for pedestrians and cyclists, but it lacks features like cyclist door prevention. Pelvis protection was rated poor, while femur protection was good, with mixed results for knee and tibia protection.
  • Safety Assist Features: The Dacia Bigster scored 10.3 points, or 57%, in this category. Its features include an advanced eCall system, driver status monitoring, and a lane support system that gently keeps the vehicle in its lane. However, the absence of some advanced features found in other models, such as rear-seat occupant detection and more comprehensive AEB, lowered its score in this area.

While the Dacia Bigster is currently unavailable in India, the third-generation Renault Duster is anticipated to make its debut in the country during the first half of 2026. Following the Duster, its 7-seater sibling, the Renault Boreal, is also planned for a later launch.
