Panaji, 21st May: Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday underlined the critical role of peace, national security, and maritime development in India’s march towards becoming a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047.
“Our aim is to be a Viksit Nation by 2047. This calls for an eight-fold increase in per capita income. Peace is the cornerstone of progress — and peace comes from strength: strength in security, economy, development, and unwavering commitment to nationalism,” the Vice-President said.
‘Operation Sindoor Sent a Strong Message’
Praising the Indian military’s decisive response to Pakistan’s Pahalgam provocation, the Vice-President said Operation Sindoor showcased India’s precision, ethos, and strategic depth.
“No one is asking for proof. The coffins, escorted by military, political forces, and terrorists in that country, revealed the proof to the entire world,” Dhankhar asserted, calling the strike on terror camps in Muridke and Bahawalpur a historic response.
Modi’s Governance: Swift Execution at Scale
Applauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development-oriented governance, Dhankhar described the inauguration of the solar power plant, harbor cranes, and coal-handling dome at Mormugao Port as proof of efficient execution.
“PM Modi’s passion lies in development. He believes in fast and large-scale execution. These projects reflect Bharat’s changing profile,” he said.
Shipbuilding Leadership & Maritime Security
Highlighting the importance of India’s maritime prowess, Dhankhar called for accelerated shipbuilding and resilient maritime security to safeguard trade and uphold international order.
“India must become a leader in shipbuilding. In today’s geopolitics, rules-based order at sea is vital yet challenging. Our oceans matter now more than ever — for trade, security, and sustainability,” he noted.
Vizhinjam Port a Symbol of Federalism
The Vice-President also praised the recently inaugurated Vizhinjam Port in Kerala, terming it “a remarkable instance of federalism,” where leaders from across political lines joined hands for national development.
Saluting the Coast Guard
Lauding the Indian Coast Guard’s role in disaster response and marine conservation, Dhankhar hailed their bravery, vigilance, and service.
“You protect coral reefs, mangroves, turtle nesting sites, and marine mammal routes. You enforce marine laws, prevent pollution, and maintain ecological balance. The nation salutes you,” he said.
Dignitaries present included Goa Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, MoS Shantanu Thakur, and senior officials from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
