New Delhi, 17th May: In a stirring address at the annual convocation of Jaipuria Institute of Management held at Bharat Mandapam, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar delivered a hard-hitting message on nationalism, economic self-reliance, and India’s firm counter-terrorism posture, while cautioning against the commodification of education.
“We can no longer afford, by travel or import, to empower countries that are inimical to our interests and positioned against us in times of crisis,” said the Vice-President, urging citizens and businesses to embrace economic nationalism. “Time has come when each one of us must deeply think about our role in national security—trade, commerce, and industry have a pivotal role to play.”
Dhankhar hailed the Indian Armed Forces and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for the “remarkable success” of Operation Sindoor, calling it a “befitting retaliation to the barbarity that happened at Pahalgam,” referring to the recent terror attack which claimed numerous civilian lives.
He described the cross-border counterstrike targeting terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke as India’s “deepest ever strike,” emphasizing it was “carefully calibrated to target only terrorists.” Drawing a parallel to the U.S. operation against Osama bin Laden in 2011, Dhankhar declared, “India has done it too—effectively, decisively, and with global recognition.”
Calling for unwavering dedication to the nation, he said, “Nation first—everything must be reckoned on the fulcrum of deep commitment to nationalism. And that mindset must be taught from toddlerhood.”
He further issued a sharp warning against anti-national narratives and foreign interference. “Foreign universities coming to this country require filtration. We cannot allow ideological penetration that threatens our sovereignty.”
On education, the Vice-President strongly opposed its commercialization. “Education and healthcare must not be avenues for profit but domains to give back to society,” he asserted, urging corporates to prioritize research through CSR funding.
Concluding his address, Dhankhar called for technological self-reliance. “Gone are the days when we could wait for others to innovate. Delays handicap us—this we must avoid.”
The event was attended by Jaipuria Institute Chairman Sharad Jaipuria, Smt. Anjali Jaipuria, Vice Chairman Shreevats Jaipuria, and other dignitaries.
