New Delhi, 13th May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the progress of India’s mission to eliminate tuberculosis (TB). Emphasizing the importance of collective effort, PM Modi stated that the movement, driven by active public participation, has gained considerable momentum in recent years.
Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote,
“Chaired a meeting on India’s mission to eliminate TB. Driven by active public participation, the movement has gained significant momentum over the last few years. Our Government remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders to realise the vision of a TB-free India.”
India has set an ambitious target to eliminate tuberculosis by 2025, five years ahead of the global deadline set by the World Health Organization. The government has launched multiple initiatives, including the Ni-kshay Mitra programme, which encourages citizens and organisations to support TB patients with nutritional and emotional care.
The Prime Minister reiterated the Centre’s commitment to working with all stakeholders—governments, healthcare workers, NGOs, and community members—to ensure a TB-free India in the near future.
