Congress Leaders Submit Memorandum to President Against ED Action on National Herald Property

Rampur (UP)— Members of the District and City Congress Committees in Rampur have submitted a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu, expressing strong objection to what they term the “unconstitutional and illegal” seizure of the National Herald property by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Congress leaders also alleged that a politically motivated chargesheet has been filed against top leaders of the party, including Rahul Gandhi.

Addressed via the District Magistrate of Rampur, the memorandum accuses the Centre of misusing central investigative agencies to target opposition parties and suppress dissent. The Congress leaders asserted that such actions are a direct attack on democratic values, freedom of expression, and political independence guaranteed by the Constitution.

The memorandum stated, “This action is not only against democratic values but also undermines the spirit of the Indian Constitution. It is clear that central agencies are being misused to silence the voice of the opposition.”

Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the party emphasized that he has consistently raised his voice for Scheduled Castes, minorities, and economically weaker sections of society, and despite mounting pressure, he remains committed to securing justice for the people.

“The central government’s conspiracies cannot deter him from his resolve,” the leaders said.

The memorandum was signed by District Congress Committee President Pramil Kumar Sharma (Nikku Pandit), City Congress Committee President Bakar Ali Khan (Haroon Khan), and AICC member and former UP Vice President Muti Ur Rahman Khan (Bablu). The Congress leaders urged the President to intervene in the matter, revoke the ED’s action, and ensure that democratic institutions function impartially and independently.

The development adds to the ongoing political friction between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, which has consistently accused the government of weaponising central agencies against political rivals.
