RJD Targets Nitish Kumar Over Waqf Bill, Calls Him ‘Chameleon’ in Poster Attack

Patna: In a fresh attack on Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has criticized him over his support for the Waqf Amendment Bill. The party put up a poster comparing Kumar to a “chameleon,” alleging that he changes political stances faster than the reptile changes colors.

The poster, which depicted Kumar wearing a cap associated with Namaz, accused JD(U) of deceiving the Muslim community by organizing Iftaar events while supporting the bill. It also declared that the people of Bihar would “teach them a lesson.” The poster was reportedly placed by RJD leader Arif Jilani near the residence of former Bihar CM Rabri Devi.

Additionally, an RJD social media post labeled Nitish Kumar as “Cheatish Kumar,” using a photoshopped image to depict him as an RSS worker. The attack comes in response to the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill (2025) in both houses of Parliament, where it was cleared with 128 votes in the Rajya Sabha and 288 votes in the Lok Sabha.

Earlier, JD(U) Minority Pradesh Secretary Shah Nawaz Malik resigned in protest against the party’s stance on the bill. In his resignation letter, Malik expressed disappointment, stating that “millions of Indian Muslims had faith in JD(U)’s secularism, but that belief has now been shattered.”

Despite the criticism, JD(U) leaders have defended their position, with a key aide of the Bihar CM stating that there was “no confusion” within the party regarding its support for the bill.
