New Delhi: Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has emphasized the need for a techno-legal framework to address emerging cyber threats, including deepfakes and AI-driven crimes.
Speaking at the 21st D.P. Kohli Memorial Lecture on the 62nd Foundation Day of the CBI, the Minister underlined the importance of leveraging technology and institutional collaboration to ensure swift investigations and effective prosecution.
Highlighting India’s academic and research potential, Vaishnaw urged the CBI to establish state-of-the-art cyber forensic laboratories in partnership with universities and scientific institutions. He stressed that legal mechanisms alone are insufficient to combat modern cybercrimes and called for a cohesive strategy combining law enforcement with technological advancements.
The Minister also outlined four key pillars of India’s growth strategy:
- Public Investment in Infrastructure – Expansion of digital, social, and physical infrastructure.
- Inclusive Growth – Enhanced financial inclusion, housing, and healthcare.
- Manufacturing & Innovation – Boosting industries like electronics and semiconductors.
- Simplification of Legal Frameworks – Replacing archaic laws with modern legal structures.
During the event, 26 CBI officers were awarded President’s Police Medals and Police Medals for their distinguished service. The function, attended by senior officials and dignitaries, reaffirmed the CBI’s role as India’s premier investigative agency in tackling evolving criminal challenges.
