“Dance or Be Suspended”: Tej Pratap Yadav’s ‘Thumka’ Order to Cop Sparks Row

Patna- Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav has landed in controversy after a video from his Holi celebrations went viral on social media. The footage shows Yadav instructing a police officer to dance during the festivities at his official residence in Patna on Saturday, sparking sharp criticism from political opponents.

In the video, Yadav can be seen addressing a uniformed officer named Deepak, saying, “Ae sipahi, ae Deepak, ek gana bajayenge uspe tumko thumka lagana hai. Bura mat mano Holi hai. Aaj nahi thumka lagaoge toh suspend kar diye jaoge (Hey, Deepak, I will play a song, and you will have to dance. Don’t mind, it’s Holi. If you don’t dance today, you will be suspended).”

The incident drew a swift response from rival parties. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the RJD of perpetuating “Jungle Raj,” comparing Yadav’s actions to those of his father, former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. “First, the father used to make the law dance to his tunes and turned Bihar into ‘Jungle Raj.’ Now, the son threatens police personnel with suspension if they don’t dance. This is just a trailer,” Poonawalla remarked.

JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad also condemned the act, asserting that Bihar has changed. “Whether it is Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, or any of the Lalu Yadav family members — they need to understand that such acts have no place in today’s Bihar,” he said.
With Bihar Assembly elections due later this year, the controversy has added fuel to the ongoing political rivalry. The Election Commission has yet to announce the official polling dates.
