Mohan Singh Bisht Elected Deputy Speaker of Delhi Assembly

New Delhi- Senior BJP leader and six-time MLA Mohan Singh Bisht was elected as the deputy speaker of the Delhi Assembly on Thursday. His name was proposed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and seconded by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. A second motion supporting his election was backed by Gajender Singh Yadav and Anil Kumar Sharma.

Bisht, 67, won the recent Delhi Assembly elections from Mustafabad, defeating AAP’s Adeel Ahmad Khan by over 17,000 votes. Before representing Mustafabad, he was the MLA from Karawal Nagar from 1998 to 2015 and reclaimed the seat in 2020.

The election comes as the maiden session of the eighth Delhi Assembly is underway following the BJP’s landslide victory on February 5, which ended AAP’s decade-long rule. The BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, reducing AAP to 22, while the Congress failed to win any.
