New Delhi- The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has nominated Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora as its candidate for the upcoming Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll in Punjab, fueling speculation that party chief Arvind Kejriwal might take his place in the Rajya Sabha.
Following AAP’s defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, Kejriwal has been strategizing and exploring the party’s prospects in other states. Reports suggest that if Arora wins the Ludhiana West bypoll, he will have to resign from the Rajya Sabha, potentially paving the way for Kejriwal’s entry. However, the party has not made any official statement on this matter.
Sanjeev Arora was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2022. While the Election Commission is yet to announce the bypoll dates, the election could coincide with the Bihar Assembly bypolls in November. The final decision on Kejriwal’s possible Rajya Sabha move is expected around that time.
Reacting to the speculation, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema stated that no discussion has taken place at the party level and accused the opposition of diverting attention from real issues.
Sanjeev Arora is a businessman with over 30 years of experience in the export industry. He runs Ritesh Industries, which exports products to the U.S., with an office in Virginia. In 2018, he launched Famela Fashion Limited, followed by a venture into the metal business in 2019.
