Brazil’s Goiás Governor Meets MoS Agriculture to Boost Agri Cooperation

New Delhi, 15th Feb. Governor of the Brazilian state of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado, met Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Bhagirath Choudhary, at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday. The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral ties between India and Brazil, focusing on trade and cooperation in sugarcane, ethanol, pulses, R&D, innovation, and digital agriculture.

Shri Bhagirath Choudhary emphasized the strong relationship between the two nations, highlighting the potential for enhanced collaboration in agricultural productivity and food security. He expressed confidence that the Governor’s visit would open new avenues for cooperation benefiting both countries.

Governor Caiado noted the similarities between India and Goiás, particularly in agriculture, and underscored the potential for joint efforts in technology exchange and capacity-building initiatives. He stressed that both regions could mutually benefit from shared agricultural expertise and climate conditions.

The meeting also included discussions on India’s key agricultural initiatives such as crop insurance, agriculture credit, and the development of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in agriculture. Shri Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), briefed the Brazilian delegation on these programs.

The high-level Brazilian delegation included senior officials from Goiás and key industry representatives. On the Indian side, senior officers from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, including advisors on digital agriculture, trade, and crop development, participated in the discussions.

The meeting reinforced India-Brazil agricultural cooperation, with both sides exploring ways to deepen their partnership in sustainable and digital farming practices.
