New Delhi, 14th Feb. Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Thursday alleged that within three days of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) losing power, the national capital has been facing power cuts, a claim swiftly dismissed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva refuted the allegations, stating that no power outages had been reported in the city. He challenged Atishi to specify affected areas instead of making “baseless” claims.
Sachdeva also warned power distribution companies against cooperating with the acting chief minister in enforcing power cuts or delaying repairs, cautioning that they would face an investigation once the new government is formed.
Atishi accused the BJP of attempting to turn Delhi into Uttar Pradesh, a state she claimed was infamous for prolonged power outages. Addressing a press conference, she asserted that over 40 power cuts were reported across the city in just three days, prompting residents to purchase inverters.
“Under the AAP government, the power sector was consistently monitored. Now, within just three days of BJP’s takeover, the system has collapsed,” she alleged.
The BJP, which defeated AAP in the February 5 polls by winning 48 of 70 Assembly seats, is yet to form a government in Delhi after 26 years.
Sachdeva accused AAP leaders of spreading “falsehoods and confusion” over power supply issues. “For years, the AAP government, in collusion with private discoms, has exploited the people. Now, with the BJP government set to take over, the acting chief minister is using fear tactics,” he claimed.
Dismissing reports of power outages, Sachdeva alleged that Atishi and power discoms were deliberately delaying breakdown repairs to create panic.
